![]() If there isn't some secret sauce of settings that I'm just missing out on hopefully this issue will be addressed at some point, but until then this works. I was looking at the art and the font is sharp- it's a shame whatever scaling tool (or lack thereof) is used by default makes things so mushy. 'Pull' the mousewheel towards you to enter 'Mouse: 5' as your keybind to move the view up. If this doesn't work for you I'd be happy to help you troubleshoot. Solution: Use the top right cog-icon to open the menu, go to 'Settings', then 'Keybindings', Scroll down until you see 'Move view/cursor up (z)', click the 'Mouse: 4' button next to it. Once you do that, the game should be full screen and the text should be sharp. There is almost certainly a free alternative to Lossless Scaling but it's only 5 bucks and convenient. Then you launch DF in windowed mode at the resolution it's set at by default, and scale it. For DF I find the sharp bilinear setting looks the nicest (scaling mode auto and aspect ratio). To resolve this, I picked up Lossless Scaling which I've had my eye on for a while for retro games. There may be a better solution than the one I found- feel free to comment if you have a better solution- but after fruitlessly messing around with the graphics settings in game I realized that the issue is most likely how the game scales pixel art. I think this problem is a lot less apparent on 1080p monitors but for people on higher res displays you may have noticed the text isn't very sharp making it pretty hard to read (for me to to the point of thinking I may not be able to play the game from an accessibility perspective). Read this sidebar! ![]() The steam release is an attempt to splurge the community additions to the game and the quality of life things it brings into a single title and package. This is just superficial as it can help for the people who like to have 30+ burrows in a fortress. ![]() After the burrow is painted it lets you customize how it looks. You then 'Add new burrow' and paint all the places you want to have in that burrow. The US brothers Zach and Tarn are developing this title for over 20 years, but millions of fans are enjoying and celebrating it since 2006 in its alpha version. So a Burrow is set up by pressing 'U' that is a capital u. Quite a lot of the graphics / etc in the steam release are the types of content you had to download separately from the free DF, and were all third party content maintained by other fans, not by Zach and Tarn. Dwarf Fortress is a fantasy building simulation from Bay 12 Games, in which you’ll build and manage a dwarf colony. Free version is ASCII only with much content being added from community packs, from things like graphics, to UI organizers for splitting labor easily between workers etc, the types of labor they do, stat sheets on inventory etc that'd all be third party content that one alt-tabs or runs in the background with DF (i.e usually from the lazy newb packs you would launch DF from the newb packs launcher, etc).
